Luke 12:22-26

22He said to his disciples, "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat, or about your body, what you will wear. 23For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing. 24Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds! 25And can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your span of life? 26If then you are not able to do so small a thing as that, why do you worry about the rest?

1 Kings 17:13-16

13Elijah said to her, "Do not be afraid; go and do as you have said; but first make me a little cake of it and bring it to me, and afterwards make something for yourself and your son. 14For thus says the LORD the God of Israel: The jar of meal will not be emptied and the jug of oil will not fail until the day that the LORD sends rain on the earth." 15She went and did as Elijah said, so that she as well as he and her household ate for many days. 16The jar of meal was not emptied, neither did the jug of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD that he spoke by Elijah.

Psalm 104:24-28

24O LORD, how manifold are your works! In wisdom you have made them all;the earth is full of your creatures.25Yonder is the sea, great and wide, creeping things innumerable are there, living things both small and great.26There go the ships, and Leviathan that you formed to sport in it.27These all look to youto give them their food in due season;28when you give to them, they gather it up;when you open your hand, they are filled with good things.

Isaiah 31:1-3

Alas for those who go down to Egypt for helpand who rely on horses, who trust in chariots because they are manyand in horsemen because they are very strong, but do not look to the Holy One of Israelor consult the LORD!2Yet he too is wise and brings disaster;he does not call back his words, but will rise against the house of the evildoers, and against the helpers of those who work iniquity.3The Egyptians are human, and not God;their horses are flesh, and not spirit. When the LORD stretches out his hand, the helper will stumble, and the one helped will fall, and they will all perish together.

Philippians 2:25-30

25Still, I think it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus — my brother and co-worker and fellow soldier, your messenger and minister to my need; 26for he has been longing for all of you, and has been distressed because you heard that he was ill. 27He was indeed so ill that he nearly died. But God had mercy on him, and not only on him but on me also, so that I would not have one sorrow after another. 28I am the more eager to send him, therefore, in order that you may rejoice at seeing him again, and that I may be less anxious. 29Welcome him then in the Lord with all joy, and honor such people, 30because he came close to death for the work of Christ, risking his life to make up for those services that you could not give me.

Psalm 131

O LORD, my heart is not lifted up,my eyes are not raised too high;I do not occupy myself with thingstoo great and too marvelous for me.2But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother;my soul is like the weaned child that is with me.3O Israel, hope in the LORDfrom this time on and forevermore.
